Just found out about FreeBSD OS.

And am installing it as a virtual machine to learn about it. Ubuntu is impressive. I will check out other Linux OS for the “zombies” computers I have around sitting collecting dust.

Stay tuned.

  1. Definitely check out Ubuntu (server and desktop versions). I converted a pile of recycled Windows XP computers into a MaaS platform then added Juju to commission collections of services like OpenStack. And then you can spin up virtual machines or an S3-like virtual drive for persistent storage. Fun stuff. So imagine erasing the hard drive partitions on a computer with GPartEd and then in the BIOS, turn on the Boot-to-LAN featureset. Boot the computer and then it adds itself as a node to your MaaS infrastructure automatically.
